He \nsaid the peaceful settlement of the conflict is of key importance to the\n stability and security of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFrom the very first day of\n my tenure I have been taking steps in this context. For this purpose, I\n made a statement that any settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict \nshould be acceptable to the peoples of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and \nAzerbaijan,\u201d Pashinyan said. He said he was the first Armenian leader to\n express a similar position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was severely criticized in my \ncountry for such a proposal, which equals the three parties to the \nconflict. Nevertheless, I believe that this is the key to a peaceful \nresolution of the conflict, as it suggests an opportunity for \ncompromise, mutual respect and balance,\u201d said Pashinyan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo move \nforward, I expected a similar statement from Azerbaijan. However, the \nAzerbaijani authorities adhere to their own position, striving for such a\n solution to the Karabakh conflict that would be acceptable only to the \npeople of Azerbaijan. Georgia and Iran are our \nstrategic neighbors. We have a strategically significant agenda and \npartnership with the United States, the European Union and its member \nstates. We observe with concern sets of disagreement among our friends, \nstrategic partners and allies,\u201d Nikol Pashinyan stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted \nthat \u201cthese realities put significant challenges to us, because we face a\n persistent risk of not being correctly understood by some of our \nfriends or, even worse, all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are doing our best to \nremain a reliable partner and a good friend for all of them without \ndamaging our relations with any of them without developing relations \nwith one of them at the expense of others,\u201d Pashinyan continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He pledged that Armenia will spare no efforts to make the region\u2019s geopolitical environment safer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing\n domestic issues, Pashinyan accused Armenia\u2019s former rulers of trying to\n obstruct his anti-corruption efforts and spreading \u201cfake news.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur\n democratic transformation and zero tolerance policy against corruption \nare not without resistance from former corrupted elites,\u201d Pashinyan said\n in a speech. \u201cTheir vast financial resources are directed at escaping \njustice. Our government has not pursued a single case of redistribution \nof property.
