WASHINGTON, DC \u2014 U.S. House of \nRepresentative members, Jackie Speier (CA-14), Judy Chu (CA-27) and \nFrank Pallone (NJ-06), are scheduled to pay a one-week visit to Armenia \nand Artsakh on October 1st to discuss relations between the two nations,\n reported the Voice of America\u2019s Armenian service report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am \nsure we will be proud to witness the new reality of Armenia,\u201d said \nCongresswoman Speier at a recent gala hosted by the Armenian Assembly of\n America. \u201cDemocracy has become tangible in Armenia when it declines \nworldwide. Armenia is a bright spot in this gray picture, and it\u2019s the \nduty of us all to keep that light on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Congresswoman \nSpeier, as the most powerful democratic country in the world, the United\n States should support Armenia in establishing democracy. The \nCongresswoman, who is of Armenian descent, hailed the 2018 Velvet \nRevolution as an unprecedented event, not only for Armenia, but for the \nwhole world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speier believes Armenia is facing three major \nchallenges now \u2013 developing the economy, strengthening its position in \nthe region and opening up opportunities for its own citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She \nadded, implementing democratic reforms and cracking down on corruption \nare challenges which the government enjoying high public support can \novercome easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congresswoman Judy Chu is looking forward to her \nvisit to Artsakh. \u201cI particularly want to visit Artsakh in order to get \nacquainted with the situation, to see what is happening there and to be \nable to provide even more serious support to the establishment of peace \nin Artsakh in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congressman Frank Pallone, founder and \nco-chair of the Congressional Armenian Caucus, thinks their visit is \nparticularly important as it is the first visit by American lawmakers to\n Armenia since the Velvet Revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne of the reasons for our \nvisit is that our group wants to support the new government and \nparliament of Armenia,\u201d said the Congressman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to \nPallone, although the U.S. State Department advised U.S. lawmakers to \navoid visiting Artsakh, the delegation decided to make the trip anyway. \nAs for his visit to Armenia, the Congressman plans to discuss the \nexpansion of cooperation in the political and trade-economic spheres \nwith their Armenian counterparts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are very excited about the \nVelvet Revolution,\u201d said Congressman Pallone. \u201cArmenia is on the way to \nbecoming a more democratic country.
